SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The 34th-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs shutout the 53rd-ranked Cal Poly men's tennis team, 7-0, in a non-conference tennis match on Sunday at the Mustang Courts.
With the loss the Mustangs fall to 11-7 overall in non-conference matches while Fresno State improves to 16-3.
Cal Poly returns to the court on April 21, when the team travels to Big West Conference rival UC Irvine for a conference match at 11 am.\
The match started with Cal Poly winning the first doubles match when Andre Dome and Matt Fawcett, ranked 70th in the nation, defeated Remi Boutillier and Francis Alcantara, the 78th-ranked team, 8-4 on the first court.
But Fresno State came back to win the next two matches, with David Ayoun and Zachary Leslie defeating Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee, 8-6 on the second court.
Fresno State secured the doubles point when Jean-Chales Diame and Reid deLaubenfenls defeated nJurgen De Jager and Marco Comuzzo, 8-6, on the third court.
With the doubles point secured, Ried deLaubenfenls defeated Comuzzo, 7-6, 6-2, on the sixth court while Zachary Leslie defeated De Jager in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3, to make it 3-0 Fresno State.
Fresno State secured the win with a straight-set win when Diame defeated Bridge 7-6, 6-1 on the fourth court.
In the featured match of the day, Dome vs. Boutillier, No. 25 vs. 29, Boutillier defeated Dome, 6-2, 7-6.
Fawcett pushed No. 51, Alcantara to three sets with Fawcett winning the first, 6-2, but dropping the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-4.
In the final match, Ayoun defeated McPhee on the third court in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 and 12-10.
