
No. 66 Mustangs Roll to 6-1 Victory Versus San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The 66th-ranked Cal Poly women's tennis program found its winning stride again on Sunday afternoon as the Mustangs dropped just two sets in downing San Francisco at Golden Gate Park, 6-1.
The Mustangs (6-3), contesting the second leg of a five-dual road trip following a 7-0 loss at No. 7 UCLA on Feb. 14, opened Sunday's match by capturing the doubles point for the 24th time during their previous 32 outings. Junior Amy Markhoff and sophomore Alexa Lee kickstarted Cal Poly's day by downing Cecilia Gratian and Jennifer-Lee Heinser at No. 1, 8-4. Junior Jocelyn Davis (above) and senior Ashley Pane followed at No. 2 with an 8-5 triumph versus Yurie Hashiguchi and Cecile Duriez before the Mustang freshman partnership of Gabrielle Gatewood and Florence Lehane finalized the doubles whitewash at No. 3 with an 8-5 win versus Julia Wartenburger and Jessy Mekpoh.
Lee returned in singles play to top Wartenburger at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, before Pane picked up her second triumph of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 against Duriez. Lehane was victorious by the same score at No. 3 versus Hashiguchi before freshman Jennifer Cornea suffered Cal Poly's lone defeat at No. 4 versus Gratian, 6-7, 6-3, 10-7. Davis, however, returned to prevail at No. 5 versus Mekpoh, 7-5, 6-2, before freshman Kathryn Webb finalized Cal Poly's victory at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory versus Blair Reed.
Cal Poly returns to the courts at Santa Clara on Monday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
