One of the most recognized names on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) tour, Loren Roberts earned eight PGA Tour victories since turning professional in 1975. In 1997, he qualified for his fourth consecutive Tour Championship. In 1994, Roberts was the runner-up at the U.S. Open following a dramatic 20-hole, sudden-death playoff against Ernie Els.
Along with that performance in 1994, he played on the inaugural President's Cup team, had nine top-10 finishes, finished the year sixth on the PGA Tour Money List and won the PGA Tour Putting Title. In 1995, he earned his way onto the Ryder Cup team posting a 3-1 record and won his second consecutive Nestle Invitational (1994-1995).
Nicknamed "Boss of the Moss" for his putting prowess, Roberts had two wins in 1996 at the MCI Classic and Greater Milwaukee Open and followed that up in 1997 with nine top-10 finishes and a win at the CVS Charity Classic.
A two-time Senior British Open winner, Roberts was 110-for-110 as of July 2010 in career cuts made since moving to the Champions Tour in 2006. He earned his 20th professional victory (12th on the Champions Tour) in late June 2010 at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, N.Y. and his 21st overall win (13th Champions Tour) at the Toshiba Classic in March 2012 in Newport Beach, Calif. He has 10 second-place finishes on the Senior Tour, 13 thirds and 87 career top-10 finishes.
Through 2020, Roberts has earned $13,635,044 in 15 seasons (288 events) on the Champions Tour and $28,789,811 in career earnings, including $15,154,767 on the PGA Tour from 1981 through 2010. On the PGA Tour, he won eight events and finished second and third 10 times each with 93 career top-20 finishes.
The San Luis Obispo High School graduate and Cal Poly golfer in the mid-1970s earned the Charles Schwab Cup in 2009 as the leading player on the Champions Tour.
Roberts still holds the record for a round by a professional in any USGA event with a 62 in the 2006 U.S. Senior Open at Hutchinson, Kansas.
Loren was born and raised in San Luis Obispo. He lives in Germantown, Tennessee with his wife Kimberly and two children.
