Luis Trejo is in his first seasonas the Cal Poly men’s soccer program’s goalkeepertrainer.
“Luis understands the position very well, having been anexcellent goalkeeper himself,” ninth-year Cal Poly head coachPaul Holocher said. “Just as important, he knows how to trainand develop young goalkeepers to play and be successful in oursystem. It’s great to have his enthusiasm around every day.He truly loves the game and how we strive to play.”
Trejo arrived at Cal Poly in January 2014 after having served asthe goalkeeper coach at United States Soccer Federation Academyprogram De Anza Force at U-14, U-16 and U-18 levels. Havingrecently served as the goalkeeper trainer for the NorCal Premierclub’s Player Development Program, Trejo has also beeninvited to participate and run goalkeeper sessions for U.S.Soccer’s Training Centers. In a scouting capacity, Trejoworks with Alianza de Futbol where he helps scout players forprofessional teams in Mexico.
As a player, Trejo made nine starts at Cal Poly during his 2002freshman season before transferring to two-year De Anza College(Cupertino, Calif.). He finished his collegiate career as atwo-year letterwinner at San Diego State (2005-06) and, aftergraduation, spent time training with Mexican club giants PueblaF.C. and C.F. Pachuca and Guatemalan side C.S.D. Municipal.
Trejo currently holds a USSF C coaching license and National SoccerCoaches Association of America Advanced National and GoalkeeperLevel 1, 2 and 3 diplomas.
