2013-14 – A solid junior season after recovering from back injuries, posting 15-5 overall record … second in Shorty Hitchcock Open and sixth in Roadrunner Open … competed in Pac-12 finals at 174 pounds but had to forfeit final two matches due to injury … 7-1 in dual meets (only loss was due to injury) … earned falls against David Irish of Cal Baptist in just 59 seconds and Colbey Vance of Upper Iowa … won two matches against ranked opponents, edging No. 16 Bryce Hammond of Bakersfield 2-1 in season-opening dual meet and defeating No. 24 Joe Latham of Oregon State 6-4 in another dual … one win by technical fall and four others by major decision.
2012-13: Missed entire season due to lower back injury.
2011-12: Capped a brilliant redshirt freshman season with a Pac-12 championship at 165 pounds and a 2-2 record at the NCAA National Championship in St. Louis, Missouri … was named Pac-12 freshman/newcomer of the year … also named to the 2012 Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie Team ... ranked as the No. 3 freshman in the nation in his weight class at the end of the 2011-12 season … compiled a 14-5 record and won nine straight matches in January and February before going 2-2 at the nationals, including a 2-1 upset against 10th-seeded Cody Yohn of Minnesota … recorded two falls and a pair of major decisions during the season ... a second-place finisher in the Cowboy Open at the University of Wyoming in November … won his three matches at the Pac-12 finals in Boise, Idaho, by a 13-3 major decision and 6-5 and 8-1 ... 6-0 in dual meets.
2010-11 – Redshirt ... competed in six open tournaments as a true freshman and compiled 14-5 record with two falls and three major decisions … placed first in Cal Baptist Open with 4-0 mark and second in California Collegiate Invitational with 2-1 mark … pins were against Mark Savalle of Cal State Fullerton in the Fullerton Open and Ronnie Balfour of Oklahoma in the Midlands.
High School -- Kastl placed fourth as a senior and seventh as a junior in the California State High School Championships … attended St. Francis High School in Mountain View as a junior before returning to Gilroy High School for his senior season ... finished eighth in the NHSCA Junior Championships in 2009 ... four-time CIF-Central Coast Section champion … was rated No. 22 in his weight class by Wrestling USA … also lettered in football at Gilroy and St. Francis.
