FARGO, N.D. — Levi Bussey, an incoming freshman on the Cal Poly wrestling team, represented the state of California at the 2025 Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota this past week and earned All-American honors.
The Granite Bay High product captured fourth in the 215-pound freestyle weight class at the prestigious junior national tournament held inside the Fargodome on July 10-19.
The 2025 CIF state champion at 190 pounds showed out in freestyle, winning his first five matches of the tournament to advance to the semifinals. Bussey won three of those bouts by technical fall.
In the semifinals, Bussey came up short to Ohio's Michael Boyle by a 3-0 decision before bouncing back with a victory by decision over Texas' Aiden Cooley. In the third-place match, he fell to Illinois' Kai Calcutt to finish in fourth place.
Bussey, the seventh-ranked wrestler in the country in his weight class, ended the tourney with an impressive 6-2 mark in freestyle.
Bussey also competed in Greco-Roman following his All-American performance in freestyle, going 5-2 with four victories by technical fall and making it to the consolation quarterfinals.
During his senior season at Granite Bay, Bussey posted a 51-1 record and won the 190-pound title at the Doc Buchanan Invitational, one of the best wrestling tournaments in the country, en route to becoming Granite Bay High's first wrestler to capture a state championship. Bussey is expected to wrestle at 197 pounds during his freshman season at Cal Poly.
