GENEVA, Ohio — Koda Holeman, who will be a redshirt junior on the Cal Poly wrestling team next season, placed fifth in the men's freestyle 57-kilogram weight class at the U23 Nationals in Geneva, Ohio, this weekend to earn All-American honors.
Competing on behalf of Central Coast RTC, Holeman posted an 8-2 record en route to a fifth-place finish at the national tournament held Friday through Sunday. The 2024-25 NCAA qualifier at 125 pounds won seven straight matches during the event and defeated Binghamton University's Carson Wagner by an 8-6 decision in the fifth-place match.
Holeman won three matches by technical fall and one by disqualification. His two defeats at nationals both came to Charles Farmer, a 2024-25 NCAA qualifier for Army. Holeman fell to Farmer by an 11-2 decision in his first match of the tournament and then again by a tightly-contested 7-4 decision in the consolation bracket.
The All-American finish at U23s comes on the heels of a strong season by Holeman in his first full season in the starting lineup for the Mustangs at 125 pounds. Holeman finished with a 20-13 overall record and secured an at-large bid to his first NCAA Championships, where he went 0-2. He was the only Mustang that wrestled in every single date for the team this season, earning Ironman status, and he was named a NWCA Scholar All-American for his dedication and excellence in the classroom and on the mat.
