2015-16 -- Earned wins in eight of 20 matches as a junior with a pair of falls .. both pins were in the first period as he pinned Casey Larson of Grand Canyon in 1 minute, 40 seconds, and Fred Green of Boise State in 1:52 ... posted 2-2 mark in Roadrunner Open ... named to Pac-12 Conference All-Academic second team.
2014-15 – Posted 7-6 record at 149 pounds in injury-plagued sophomore season … one win was by technical fall while two others were by major decision … split four matches in dual meets … earned a 3-1 decision over Jake Velarde of Boise State for fifth place in Pac-12 Championship.
2013-14 – As a redshirt freshman, compiled 18-8 record before an injury curtailed his season in late January … earned one fall in 1 minute, 29 seconds, against Kenny Martin of Clackamas … another win was by technical fall over Brian McCrystal of Montclair State in Shorty Hitchcock Open … earned 9-1 major decision against Andrew Fierro of Bakersfield in Roadrunner Open … placed second in Roadrunner Open at 149 pounds and eighth in Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational … named to 2014 Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team.
2012-13: Redshirt ... competed in four open tournaments, placing first in the San Francisco State Open, third in the Roadrunner Open and fourth in the California Collegiate Open ... also was 2-2 in the Reno Tournament of Champions ... among his 14 wins were six falls and eight decisions ... three of his pins were in the first period.
High School: Kastl, a younger brother of current Cal Poly wrestler Dominic Kastl, was a two-time California State High School Championships place winner as a sophomore and junior wrestling for Gilroy High School, placing sixth and fourth … wrestled as a senior at Graham High School in Paris, Ohio, placing second in Ohio state finals at 145 pounds and helping Falcons to 12th straight state Division II team title … a two-time NHSCA All-American and claimed the national title as a freshman ... also is a two-time CIF-Central Coast Section champion, placed third in the Reno Tournament of Champions in 2011, fourth in the Doc B and fourth in the Temecula Invitational … a four-time varsity letter winner in wrestling and two time CIF-Central Coast Section champion … earned Ohio High School Coaches Association All-Academic honors and graduated with Academic Honors (3.74 GPA) … visited Maryland before choosing Cal Poly.
