After playing for two seasons as a backup tackle on the offensive line, moved to the defensive front last fall at the buck (end) position in 2010 and will back up Gavin Cooper this fall ... also will be the long snapper on special teams.
2010 -- Recorded nine tackles, all solo, while playing all 11 games on defense and as the long snapper on special teams ... career-high four tackles in Saint Francis (Pa.) game ... also made two stops in McNeese State and South Dakota contests ... forced a fumble in South Dakota game and notched three quarterback hurries for season, all in Saint Francis (Pa.) game ... recorded a tackle for lost yardage in 2011 Spring Game.
2009 -- Cal Poly’s long snapper for all kicks on special teams, played in all 11 games as reserve right tackle on offensive line ... recorded tackles on special teams against Ohio and Dixie State.
2008 -- Played in eight games, all as a reserve tackle on the offensive line ... credited with one special teams tackle in Montana game.
2007 -- Redshirt.
High School – The third Shotwell to play football at Cal Poly, following Kyle, a linebacker who won the 2006 Buck Buchanan Award and was on the practice squads of five NFL teams, and defensive end Ryan, who played and coached in the Danish American Football Federation in 2010 ... earned first-team All-Channel League and All-Santa Barbara County honors as a senior at Dos Pueblos High and also earned team MVP and Ironman awards ... on defense recorded 86 tackles, including 13 sacks and eight other tackles for lost yardage ... as a tight end caught 13 passes for 226 yards and one TD, leading Chargers to 7-4 mark and CIF-Southern Section playoff berth ... MVP of Santa Barbara County All-Star Game ... earned 200 Percent Award, an academic honor ... a tae kwon do black belt.
