As a junior, Savage caught 30 passes for 721 yards and seven scores. On defense he made 30 tackles, including a sack, and recovered one fumble. Savage, who also competed in track and field, was recruited by Eastern Washington, Sacramento State, South Dakota State, Illinois State, Howard and Cal, deciding on Cal Poly "for football as well as academics. Cal Poly excels above a lot of other schools in both, but also for the whole atmosphere and environment. It fits my personality more so than the other schools and everybody is so relaxed. It's just the right size and not too far from home to where I'll be comfortable."
