High School -- Cole, the Oakland Athletic League's player of the year, helped lead McClymonds of head coach Michael Peters to its fourth state championship since 2016 with wins over Campolindo and Birmingham ... Warriors finished 12-1 overall, capturing Oakland Athletic League and CIF-Oakland Section titles ... also named to the All-Oakland City Team, Cole earned Chronicle All-Metro and SportsStars All-NorCal first-team honors in addition to East Bay player of the year honors ... in a 33-22 non-league victory over Marin Catholic, which also went on to win a state title, Cole caught seven passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns ... in a 54-7 rout of Birmingham for the CIF Division 3-A state championship, Cole set the tone by returning the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown ... Cole recorded 11 touchdown receptions among his 20 catches for the season, five return TDs and eight tackles and six interceptions on defense ... notched three pass breakups against Campolindo in the semifinals of the state playoffs ... Cole transferred to McClymonds from Oakland High School, which played just one game in the spring of 2021 and was 5-4-1 in 2019 ... chose Cal Poly "because academics come first here and, as for me, it's the same as well. This school just feels like home to me."
