Olaitan Oguntodu, a graduate assistant coach with thelinebackers at Northern Illinois the last two years, was hired atCal Poly during the offseason as a defensive assistant, workingwith the cornerbacks.
Born in Akure, Nigeria, Oguntodu immigrated to Mesquite, Texas,and played collegiately at the University of Kansas as a safety andlinebacker. He was special teams captain in 2010, earned first-teamAll-Big 12 Conference academic honors in 2009 and 2010 and playedon the 2008 Insight Bowl and 2008 Orange Bowl championshipteams.
A four-year varsity letter winner at Kansas, Oguntodu recorded 56tackles, a career high, as a senior in 2010 and finished his careerwith 63 stops in 32 games.
After he graduated from Kansas with bachelor's degrees in financeand marketing, Oguntodu worked for a year as a portfolio managerwith Fidelity Investments in Westlake, Texas, before moving intothe coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at NorthernIllinois.
The Huskies were undefeated during the 2013 regular season (12-0),won the Mid-American Conference's West Division title and played inthe Poinsettia Bowl. Northern Illinois also won the Mid-AmericanConference crown in 2012, a team which finished second in totaldefense in the Football Bowl Subdivision, posted an 11-1regular-season mark and played in the 2013 Orange Bowl.
Oguntodu, who also earned master's degree in strategic planningfrom Kansas in 2011 as well as in management information systems atNorthern Illinois, has a daughter, Kloie, 8.
