Jacob Yoro, defensive coordinator at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, for five years, was hired as an assistant football coach at Cal Poly in June 2015.
Yoro, who coached the linebackers at Pacific in addition to his duties as defensive coordinator, also served as recruiting coordinator for the Boxers for his final three seasons at Pacific. In 2013, Yoro's defense finished the season ranked fifth among NCAA Division III teams in sacks and 28th in tackles for loss. Pacific allowed opponents a total of 19.6 points per game, ranking 58th nationally.
Yoro arrived at Pacific in 2010 after one season as the linebackers coach at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 4-6 record. Prior to returning to the mainland, Yoro spent eight seasons coaching in the high school ranks in his native Hawaii.
He began his coaching career at Mililani High School, where he was the linebackers coach in 2001, followed by six seasons at the Saint Louis School in Honolulu. He was linebackers coach for three years before taking on the added responsibility of defensive coordinator for three seasons. In 2008, Yoro was a linebackers coach and defensive consultant at Waipahu High School.
Yoro played his collegiate football at the University of Montana, where he was a two-year letterwinner before seeing his career cut short by a knee injury. He was a part of Grizzly teams that advanced to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs in 1998 and 1999.
Yoro played his high school ball at the St. Louis School, where he earned all-league and all-state honors in football. A native of Mililani, Hawaii, Yoro, 35, earned his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 2008.
