Doug Shumway, a backup quarterback at Cal Poly from 2009-12, isin his first year as offensive quality control coach at his almamater.
Shumway, who also played the slotback position in his seniorseason and was the team’s holder on special teams and a teamcaptain, completed 16 of 33 passes for 212 yards and a pair oftouchdowns in his Mustang career, backing up Andre Broadous in the2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. He also rushed for 132 yards on 45carries with one touchdown.
Shumway, who started one game as a sophomore against TexasState, likely will best be remembered for his second-halfperformance against then-No. 1 Montana when he hit David Mahr withan 83-yard touchdown pass, igniting Cal Poly’s comeback in a35-33 victory. He also connected with Dominique Johnson on a25-yard scoring pass in that game and rushed for 22 yards on ninecarries. He earned the Mel Kaufman Award in 2012.
A graduate of Agoura High School in 2008, Shumway completed hisdegree in agricultural business at Cal Poly last spring.
