Blake Vandenkolk

Blake Vandenkolk, a senior communication studies major at CalPoly, will serve as a student assistant coach for the 2014season.
Vandenkolk attended Cal Poly during the 2011-12 academic year,then transferred to Palomar College before returning to Cal Poly.He was on the football team roster at Palomar in 2012, but did notplay in any games, and participated in Cal Poly’s 2014 SpringCamp, recording five tackles, including one for lost yardage, inthe 2014 Spring Game.
A 2011 graduate of Carlsbad High School, Vandenkolk was aquarterback and defensive back. Primarily a cornerback in hissenior season (2010), he notched 36 tackles (21 solo), a pair ofinterceptions, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles and onefumble recovery. Vandenkolk earned a spot on the San DiegoUnion-Tribune All-Academic Team.
Vandenkolk was a quarterback as a junior (2009) and completed 21of 57 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns with sixinterceptions.
He lettered four times in football, twice in track and field andonce in basketball. Vandenkolk was an Honors graduate and member ofthe National Honors Society. He has interned with the San DiegoSockers pro indoor soccer team and aspires to be a college footballcoach.
Hobbies include running, swimming, weight lifting and spendingtime with friends. Vandenkolk has one sister, Hannah, and onebrother, Michael, who played football at Washington State and SanDiego State.
