Air Force -- After a year at the U.S. Air Force Prep School in 2009, Michaels played in two games in 2010 against Northwestern Louisiana and Wyoming. He rushed one time for five yards.

High School -- Michaels rushed for 4,181 yards and 55 touchdowns in three varsity seasons under head coach Kris Garry at Lake Havasu High School. He rushed for 1,588 yards (7.1 yards per carry) and 25 scores as a senior and compiled six 100-yard games, including 236 yards and five TDs against Dysart and 209 yards and three scores against Mohave. He scored two or more touchdowns seven times and also caught six passes for 111 yards and averaged 24.3 yards on six kickoff returns, including a long of 50 yards. As a junior set Arizona high school single-game rushing record with 470 yards against Aguafria, scoring six touchdowns. He finished 2007 season with 1,939 yards (9.1 yards per carry) and 24 touchdowns, including nine 100-yard games, and also averaged 23.2 yards on 10 kickoff returns, including a 90-yard return for a touchdown. His sophomore-year numbers (2006) include 718 yards and six scores rushing (two 100-yard games) and a 28.3 kickoff return average, including a 90-yarder (no TD). Michaels was a two-time all-region selection and was the team’s most valuable player as a junior. He scored 57 touchdowns in high school and compiled 17 100-yard games rushing in his prep career.
