
Mustangs Wrap Up West Prelims with 5 NCAA Qualifiers

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Grace Proudfoot and Isabella Rigby officially wrapped up the NCAA West Preliminaries for the Cal Poly track and field program on Saturday as the Mustangs ended the meet with five national qualifiers.
On the final day of competition for the women at West Prelims, Proudfoot and Rigby were the only Mustangs in action at John McDonnell Field.
In the women’s high jump, Proudfoot cleared the opening bar at 5 feet, 7.25 inches on her second attempt before failing to make it over the next height at 5-9.25 (1.76m), finishing in 41st in her first and only West Prelims appearance. The graduate transfer from Oregon State recorded a lifetime best of 5-10 (1.78m) this season, tied for sixth best in school history.
Making her first West Prelims appearance as well, Rigby secured 38th in the women’s discus (159-0; 48.47m). The redshirt senior posted the third-best mark in school history (168-11; 51.50m) to secure a trip to regionals this season.
The Mustangs ended the NCAA West Prelims with an impressive five NCAA qualifiers — Chris Caudillo (men’s 1,500-meter), Lexi Evans (women’s pole vault), Ben Feyrer (men’s pole vault), Travis Martin (men’s hammer throw) and Carson Smith (men’s 1,500-meter). The five NCAA qualifiers are the most in program history since the current two-regional format was adopted in 2010.
Those five athletes will compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships at University of Oregon’s Hayward Field on June 10-13.
