SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track and field team swept the season’s final Big West Men’s and Women’s Track Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday as juniors Chris Caudillo and Jordan Jackson both received recognition.
Caudillo was crowned Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week while Jackson earned Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors. This is the first time either has won a Big West weekly award.
This is the first time since May 13, 2025, Cal Poly has swept the Big West Men’s and Women’s Track Athlete of the Week awards.
The praise for Caudillo comes after he laid down one of the fastest times in the NCAA this season in the men’s 1,500-meter at the Franson Last Chance on Saturday night. The Clovis, Calif. crossed the finish line in a blistering time of 3:35.13, breaking the 2024 school record and a 48-year-old Big West record in the event. The time is the third fastest ran in the West Region this season and No. 8 in Division I. It’s also the 25th fastest ran in collegiate history.
At the same meet on Friday night, Jackson nearly matched her lifetime best in the women’s 800-meter, finishing 15th overall with a time of 2:08.91, just .39 seconds off her PR. The Las Vegas, Nevada native ranks sixth in the Big West this season in the 400 and is tied for ninth in the 800.
Cal State Bakersfield’s Javier Toro and CSUN’s Katherine Shipp-Davis won the Men’s and Women’s Field Athlete of the Week awards to round out the season’s final Big West weekly awards.
Cal Poly travels to Long Beach State to compete in the Big West Championships on Friday and Saturday at Jack Rose Track. Last year, the Cal Poly men defended their Big West crown to secure their second Big West Championship in program history while the women finished 1.5 points short of earning their second straight conference title.
