SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the first time since February 2025, a Mustang has been named Big West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and none more unexpected than senior Aaron Eliscu.
On senior night against No. 35 UC Santa Barbara, the fourth-year Mustang delivered perhaps the finest performance of his collegiate career, upsetting No. 57 Dominique Rolland and snapping his eight-match unbeaten streak to even the overall match score. The victory paved the way for a Mustang teammate to clinch a share of the Big West Championship.
Eliscu has compiled a team second-best 12–6 singles dual record this season, including a 3–2 mark at the No. 2 position.
This marked just the seventh time in his collegiate career that Eliscu has competed in a top-half singles spot.
As a junior last season, Eliscu went 5–4 in singles, appearing eight times at No. 6 and once at No. 5. He was 0–1 in singles at No. 6 during the 2023 campaign and posted a 3–6 record as a freshman while playing across the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.
Before arriving at Cal Poly, Eliscu was rated a four-star prospect by TennisRecruiting.net, ranked as high as No. 76 nationally in his recruiting class, and stood as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Arizona.
Now, the No. 72 Mustangs, back in the ITA rankings after their upset over UCSB, enter the Big West Championship as the three-seed this week. They await their opponent as either the six or seven seed.
