SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Following a nearly four month break from fall competition, Cal Poly women’s golf will begin its spring schedule Monday, Feb. 9 at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate in Tucson.
The tournament will run Monday and Tuesday with 72 holes played between the two days at Tucson Country Club. Fans can follow live scoring at the link HERE. Cal Poly will be one of 15 schools competing in the event. Some of the notable teams competing include No. 1 Stanford, No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Baylor, No. 22 Arizona, No. 18 Arizona State, and No. 48 Colorado.
The Mustangs return to action following a strong fall season in which they had two top five team finishes. Individually, sophomore Nicole Koong, who boasts the second-best career stroke average (74.5) in program history, had top 20 individual finishes in each of the four fall events, extending her streak of top 20 finishes to five dating back to last year’s Big West Championship.
Elsewhere, the Mustangs will continue to rely on freshmen in Maddy Saysanasongkham and Taylor Baker, who both had strong rookie fall campaigns. The Mustangs will also continue to look for strong contributions from junior Sarah Yoo, sophomore Sara Torres, and junior Triana Fernando.
The Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate will be the first of five regular season events the Mustangs will compete in this spring before the Big West Championships in April in Maui.
