Cal Poly (3-22, 1-14 Big West) continues to have two elite scorers producing at a high level despite not having a senior on the roster and being the youngest teams in Division I. Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus ranks third in the Big West in scoring at 17.0 points per game. She’s had 16 double digit scoring games, five games scoring at least 20 points, and two games scoring at least 30 points.
Freshman forward Charish Thompson has been on a tear this season and is making a strong case for Big West Freshman of the Year. She ranks 11th in the Big West at 14 points per game. Over the last five games, she’s averaging 16.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She has 18 double digit scoring games this year, including five with 20 or more.
Hawai’I ranks sixth in the Big West standings at 8-6 in conference play. However, they have won eight of their last nine game. In conference games, they rank as the second best scoring defense in the Big West, allowing 56.7 points per game. Individually, they have the conference leader in blocks in Imani Perez who is averaging 1.8 per game. This will be the 32nd all time meeting with the Rainbow Wahine, with Hawai’i leading the series 20-11. UH has also won the last nine meetings, including one earlier this season.
The Mustangs will be off Saturday before returning to action next Thursday, Feb. 25 on the road against Long Beach State.
