SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team will hit the sand this Friday at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for its annual intrasquad scrimmage, a free event that doubles as a fundraiser for Jack’s Helping Hand, an organization that supports children with medical needs.
The fundraiser gives fans their first opportunity to see the No. 4 Mustangs in action ahead of the 2026 season, as the team competes against itself in staggered exhibition matches scheduled for 4, 5, and 6 p.m.
Admission to the event is free, with opportunities available for fans who wish to support Jack’s Helping Hand throughout the evening. Fans will also have the chance to participate in raffles and win prizes, with all proceeds benefiting the organization and its mission to support local children with medical needs. Donations are encouraged during the event, where all proceeds will support the organization. Both cash and Venmo will be accepted for donations.
Cal Poly enters this season coming off another historic year, earning back-to-back NCAA Championship Final Four appearances and finishing fourth in the national rankings last season. The Mustangs return three All-Americans from last year’s roster and two All-American transfers and look to build on that success as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The annual intrasquad scrimmage has become a staple preseason event for the program, blending competition with community impact. This year’s fundraiser was organized in part by senior Mustang Ella Connor, who helped bring the event together as an opportunity to give back while welcoming fans to the sand.
As part of the event, the beach team is partnering with local restaurant Quesadilla Gorilla to raise money for Jack’s Helping Hand. From 7-10 p.m. Friday night, 5-8 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, fans who buy food there using the code “JHH” will have a portion of the proceeds go to Jack’s Helping Hand.
Following Friday’s scrimmage, the Mustangs will open the 2026 season at the Third Coast College Classic in Houston, Texas. Cal Poly will face Saint Mary’s and Houston Christian on Friday, Feb. 20, before continuing tournament play Saturday against Tarleton State and Southern Miss.
