SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women’s basketball will be making its final trip to Honolulu for possibly quite a while as it travels to take on the University of Hawai’i Thursday in Manoa. Hawai’i is scheduled to leave the Big West after this athletic year and move to the Mountain West.
The Mustangs (3-13, 1-5 Big West) will face the Rainbow Wahine (6-9, 0-5 Big West) at 9 p.m. PT with the game airing on ESPN+. Links to that as well as live stats can be found on the schedule page.
Cal Poly has two players who rank in the top 10 in the Big West in scoring. Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus ranks third at 19.0 points per game. She has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, including over 20 five times and over 30 twice.
Meanwhile, freshman forward Charish Thompson is having an exceptional start to her college career. She is second on the team and 10th in the Big West in scoring at 14.5 points per game and is on a stretch right now of four straight games scoring double figures. She’s also been very efficient in her shooting to the tune of 51.4 percent which ranks second in the Big West.
Cal Poly is coming off losses last week to CSUN and UC Davis. They will be looking to get back on track Thursday against a Hawai’i team that is still looking for its first Big West win of the season and is in the midst of a four game losing streak. This will be the 31st all time meeting with the Rainbow Wahine, with Hawai’i leading the series 19-11. UH has also won the last eight meetings.
Following Thursday’s game, the Mustangs enjoy a bye Saturday before returning to action Thursday, Jan. 22 as they host Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
