
McManus Scores 22 But Mustangs Fall at Hawai’i

MANOA, HI – Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus scored 22 points, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team fell on the road Thursday evening at Hawai’i, 86-46.
McManus was 8-13 from the field, 2-2 from three and added four rebounds for the Mustangs (3-14, 1-6 Big West). Freshman Charish Thompson added eight points and five rebounds.
The Rainbow Wahine had four players score in double figures as they 47 percent as a team. They forced Cal Poly into 20 turnovers and scored 23 points off those turnovers.
Hawai’i got out to a 17-2 lead to begin the game. The Rainbow Wahine finished the opening quarter with a 28-4 run to lead it 28-6 heading into the second quarter.
Hawai’i stayed hot in the second quarter, extending its lead to as much as 29 thanks to shooting 54 percent for the half overall, including 6-12 from three. They also scored 18 points in the off the Mustangs’ 14 first half turnovers to lead it 51-24 at halftime. The Rainbow Wahine extended their lead in the second half to as much as 44.
Cal Poly next plays Thursday Jan. 22 when hosting Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara at 6 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
