SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by nine regular season home matches and a showdown with the 2021 national runners-up to kick off its home slate, the Cal Poly women’s soccer program unveiled its full 2025 schedule on Wednesday.
Season tickets for the 2025 Cal Poly women’s soccer season are available now for $45 and can be purchased HERE or by visiting GoPoly.com/Tickets. Single match tickets will go on sale on Aug. 1. All regular season home and Big West matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Kickoff times for all matches this season can be found on the Cal Poly women's soccer schedule page.
The 2025 season will mark the start of a new era for the Mustangs under first-year head coach Bernardo Silva, who helped Cal State Bakersfield reach a Big West Championship final for the first time in school history a year ago. The former Cal Poly assistant spent the winter and spring adding to the Mustangs’ talent, signing eight transfers — forward Shelby Runje (University of Washington/Issaquah, WA), midfielders Ruby Casey (Miami University, Ohio/Orange, CA), Madelyn Dougherty (Sacramento State/Kula, HI) and Julia Moore (Long Beach State/Santa Cruz, CA), defenders Ava Mirelez (Cal State Fullerton/Clovis, CA), Michelle Pham (San Francisco State/Garden Grove, CA) and Ally Thomas (Ole Miss/Newport Beach, CA) and goalkeeper Alyssa Szarlacki (Nevada/San Jose, CA). With three All-Big West honorees and 12 letterwinners set to return from last year’s squad, Cal Poly looks primed to contend with the conference’s best teams in Silva’s first year at the helm.
NONCONFERENCE / PRESEASON
Cal Poly fans will get their first taste of the new look Mustangs when the program hosts its annual Green versus White intrasquad scrimmage at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by Dignity Health French Hospital at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. The Mustangs will then host an exhibition match against University of San Francisco on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. before traveling to 2024 West Coast Conference champion Pepperdine on Aug. 9 for its final exhibition to wrap up preseason play.
Cal Poly officially opens its 2025 regular season on the road on Thursday, Aug. 14, when the team takes on University of San Diego at 7 p.m. It will mark the program’s first trip to the Toreros since 2019. Following that contest, the Mustangs return to San Luis Obispo on Monday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. to host their home opener against BYU, one of the best teams in the country over the last four years. The high-profile matchup against the Cougars will serve as Club Soccer Night for the team as soccer fans in the community are encouraged to come out and enjoy some Monday Night Futbol. The matchup is set to be the sixth all-time between the two programs and BYU will be making its first trip to San Luis Obispo in a decade. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA semifinals two years ago and made it to the NCAA national championship match in 2021, where they came up short to Florida State in penalties. BYU went 9-7-5 last season and fell to Santa Clara 1-0 in the NCAA First Round.
The Mustangs travel to Fresno State on Aug. 21 before returning home on Sunday, Aug. 24 to host Pacific at 1 p.m. Then Cal Poly heads to Nevada to start a three-match road trip, facing Nevada on Aug. 28 and UNLV on Aug. 31. The match against the Wolf Pack will be Cal Poly’s first in Reno since 2012, while the Mustangs are set to take on the Rebels for just the third time in program history and will be making their first trip to Las Vegas in 23 years. Cal Poly caps off the road trip at San Jose State on Sept. 4.
Cal Poly comes back to Spanos on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. to host perennial power Cal, who advanced to the NCAA Second Round a year ago. Then the Mustangs host Seattle University on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. for its final nonconference match of the season. The match will serve as the program’s Senior Night and is part of the university’s Week of Welcome festivities. The Cal Poly men’s soccer team will face Saint Mary’s at 4 p.m. prior to the Mustangs match as part of a soccer doubleheader at Spanos.
BIG WEST SCHEDULE
The Mustangs open Big West play on Sept. 18 when they travel to Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara. Last season, the Gauchos claimed their first Big West Championship in 15 years and fell to eventual NCAA semifinalist Stanford in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament 5-0. A week later, the team returns home to host UC San Diego at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, in its Big West home opener.
A trip to UC Davis is set for Sept. 28 and then Cal Poly comes back to the friendly confines of Spanos Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 2, to host Silva’s former team, Cal State Bakersfield, at 7 p.m. The match will kick off the program’s Alumni Weekend festivities. The Mustangs take the six-hour flight to visit Hawai’i on Oct. 9 for their final of three matches outside the state of California this season.
Cal Poly hosts Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, as part of Latino Heritage Weekend before hitting the road for a pair of pivotal late season conference matches at Long Beach State on Oct. 16 and at UC Irvine on Oct. 19. Following the trip to SoCal, the Mustangs return to Spanos to host their final two matches of the season, taking on UC Riverside on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. as part of the program’s Greek Night before wrapping up the regular season against CSUN on Sunday, Oct. 26, at noon. Cal Poly will host its second and final soccer doubleheader of the season on that day as well as the men are set to battle the Matadors at 3 p.m. following the conclusion of the women’s match.
POSTSEASON
The opening round of the Big West Championships is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 2. The format for the six-team conference tournament is the same as the last three years with the top two schools in the 11-team Big West regular season standings receiving byes from the opening round, which will feature the third seed hosting the sixth seed, and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed. The winners of those matches advance to the Big West semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 6 to face the top two seeds at the home field of the No. 1 overall seed. The Big West Championship match will be played on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the No. 1 seed. Last season, Cal Poly finished ninth in the Big West regular season standings and did not qualify for the conference tournament.
Senior forward Jessie Halladay, senior midfielder Sophia Minnite and junior forward Annika Smith are some of the key returners for the Mustangs this season. The trio earned All-Big West Honorable Mention recognition a year ago and Halladay and Smith finished first and second on the team in points, combining for nine goals and three assists to lead Cal Poly’s attack. Halladay, Minnite and senior defender Camryn Penn will serve as Cal Poly’s three team captains this season. In addition to the eight transfers, the Mustangs have six incoming freshmen — forwards Kenzie Herzing (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) and Kammy MacLennan (Portland, Ore.), midfielders Addie Crosno (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Farra Franklin (North Fork, Calif), and defenders Izzy Matteson (San Diego, Calif.) and Sam Walker (Danville, Calif.).
