Cal Poly Men's Tennis Falls at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. — Sophomore Sean Kamyshev went undefeated in singles and doubles, but the Cal Poly men's tennis team fell 4-2 at Big West foe UC Davis on Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Kamyshev and freshman John Cross earned a decisive 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot to improve to 5-1 as a tandem and pickup their third straight win. But then the Aggies won 6-4 at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to secure the doubles point.
In singles, Kamyshev leveled the match at 1-1 with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4. UC Davis grabbed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to pull ahead 3-1, but junior Aaron Eliscu kept the Mustangs in it with a triumph at No. 6. Eliscu won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to improve to 4-4 this season and remain undefeated in Big West play (3-0).
Freshman Jack McGary fought hard at the No. 5 spot, but ultimately fell 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), allowing the Aggies (12-5, 3-1 Big West) to clinch the dual. Sophomore Raz Haviv won the second set in his match at No. 1 6-2 and was leading 2-0 in the third set when UCD clinched the victory.
Cal Poly (8-13, 2-3 Big West) heads to Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, to wrap up the regular season.
