Martinez & Walter Named Big West Pair of the Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After an impressive 3-1 opening weekend as a pair that included two wins over pairs from top 10 teams, Cal Poly beach volleyball duo Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter have been named the Big West Pair of the Week.
Playing at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, Martinez and Walter shined in their first matches playing as a pair. They started the season by taking down No. 1 UCLA’s No. 2 pair followed by No. 8 Long Beach State’s No. 2 pair.
The next day, the beat the No. 2 pair from Concordia University Irvine before falling to No. 2 LMU’s duo. This is the second time both Martinez and Walter have won Big West Pair of the Week. Both did it once with different partners last season.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 6 in this week’s AVCA national rankings for a second straight week, head to Tempe, Ariz. this weekend where they will face Arizona and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday followed by Coastal Carolina and No. 10 Arizona State Saturday.
