
Roy-Williams' Top 10 Mark Highlights West Coast Relays

CLOVIS, Calif. — Highlighted by senior Cadence Roy-Williams recording a top-10 mark in school history in the women’s long jump and a handful of other lifetime bests, the Cal Poly track and field team competed in the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State on Friday and Saturday.
Over 40 Mustangs took part in the meet with the women stealing the spotlight. Roy-Williams led the way, leaping a lifetime best in the long jump of 19 feet, 5.5 inches (5.93 meters) to soar to No. 10 in program history and place third in the event. She also ran a personal best in the 100-meter (12.27 seconds) and ran the third leg on Cal Poly’s second-place 4x400 relay which posted a season best time (3:50.45). Sophomores Kalia Estes and Elianah DeMange, and freshman Avery Adelman ran the other three legs on the relay.
DeMange posted a nearly four-second personal best in the 800, running a time of 2:11.75, while Estes ran a PR in the 100 hurdles (14.57 seconds). Sophomore Taylor Hofland won the women’s shot put with a lifetime best mark (43 feet, 5.75 inches). Maia Garia, Lariel Henley and Melanie Castelli all tied for second in the high jump (5-5).
Sophomore Logan Hays and junior Avery Karner grabbed fourth (11-10.5) and fifth (11-4.5) respectively in the women’s pole vault while junior Chase Kubinski (women’s javelin) and freshman Melisse Djomby Enyawe (women’s 1,500) each earned fifth-place finishes.
During the opening day of the meet Friday, the only event that was contested was the hammer throw at Fresno State’s Warmerdam Field. Senior Anna Grexton improved her fourth best mark in school history in the event with a PR of 174 feet, 1 inch to place sixth while freshman Brooklyn Epperley also earned a lifetime best of 150-6 to add to her 10th best mark in school history.
On the men’s side, junior Rory Devaney captured first in the hammer throw with a mark of 216-11 (66.12 meters). The current school record holder in the event currently owns the ninth best mark in the nation this season (223-0). He also took third in the discus at the meet (174-0).
Graduate student Corban Payne secured second in the shot put with a strong mark of 58-10 (17.93 meters) while redshirt sophomore Albert Beerbower earned fifth (54-2.5). Payne currently owns the 20th best mark in the country this season in the event (60-0.25).
Freshman Ben Feyrer cleared a lifetime best in the men’s pole vault (16-5.25) to place third, while sophomore Ben Kin Ho Tsang earned third in the 110 hurdles with a collegiate best (14.92 seconds). True freshman Noah Goodrich snagged third in the triple jump with a collegiate best (45-1), while sophomore Ben Lammers and graduate student Chase Walter captured fourth (183-2) and fifth (183-0) respectively in the javelin.
Cal Poly heads to the Bay Area this coming Friday and Saturday to take part in the prestigious Stanford Invitational. Several women’s steeplechasers will also compete in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic hosted by San Franciso State on April 4-5.
