Upcoming Schedule
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly (13-6, 6-0 BWC) has won both home series this season and will defend a 6-1 record at Baggett against the No. 6 ranked Oregon State Beavers (16-3) this weekend.
Having won their last eight straight games, the Mustangs were tied for the ninth-longest streak in Division I baseball entering the week. Just as impressive, Cal Poly is on a 12-1 roll since defeating Texas A&M, bolstered by outscoring opponents 130-60 in that stretch.

Last Time on the Diamond
The Mustangs unloaded an 18-4 victory against San Jose State and have won all three midweek contests this season, on the road as well.
For the start of the weekend conference series, four Cal Poly pitchers combined to limit Long Beach State to one run and five hits as the Mustangs extended their winning streak to six with a 3-1 Big West victory Friday night at Blair Field.
On Saturday, catcher Jack Collins doubled three times, one shy of the school Division I record, as the Mustangs won the series with a 9-1 victory over LBSU. For the first time in 29 Big West baseball seasons, Cal Poly won its first five conference games.
Cal Poly bested its newly set conference-opening streak by completing its series sweep against Long Beach State on Sunday, belting four home runs in a 9-0 victory.
The Mustangs earn their first shutout of the year and complete their second conference series sweep to a 6-0 start! ??

Mustangs at the Plate
For his efforts in securing a second consecutive conference series sweep and protecting Cal Poly’s streak, Jack Collins earned Big West Field Player of the Week on Monday, March 17. Collins remains perfect behind the plate this season (1.000 FLD%) and finished last week 6-for-16 (.375) with six hits, four doubles, two home runs, and eight RBIs through four games against San Jose State and Long Beach State.
Pure power throughout its lineup and depth is something Cal Poly has been lacking over the last decade, with the Mustangs surpassing 30 home runs as a team four times since 2015. However, four players have already tallied multiple home runs while the team has already contributed 17 not even halfway through the season yet.
Collins, who currently leads the team (5) and is tied for sixth in the Big West, is looking to join Brooks Lee and Collin Villegas as the only Mustangs since 2015 to tally double-digit homers. The transfer catcher, leading the team and second in the conference with 27 RBIs, is on pace to put up one of Cal Poly’s best individual RBI totals through the last ten years.
After Collins’ hit streak was snapped, Casey Murray Jr. holds the current longest streak on the team at seven games as he enjoys a breakout season after a challenging 2024. His fielding ability in center field and consistent hitting in the middle third of the lineup have been vital to Cal Poly’s offensive prowess. Murray Jr. is tied for second on the team for home runs (3), hitting a pair in consecutive games against Cal State Fullerton and one last weekend at Long Beach State.
Eight starting Mustang batters have recorded at least 16 hits and 8 RBIs, multiple doubles, and hold averages of .260 or better. Cal Poly’s six top hitters all have 20+ hits and above a .280 batting average. The team’s second-leading hitter, true freshman Dante Vachini, has racked up 24 hits and 15 RBIs while co-leading the team with four stolen bases.
The Mustangs have also enjoyed plenty of power from Zach Daudet and Dylan Kordic. Daudet has a pair of home runs and the second-best OPS on the team (1.055), while Kordic is tied with Murray Jr. for second with three home runs and made history last week against San Jose State as the only Mustang in the program’s Division I history to record two home runs in one inning.
Jack Collins continues to be arguably the best offensive catcher in the conference and takes Big West Field Player of the Week after putting up 8 RBIs, 4 doubles, and 2 home runs against SJSU and LBSU! ??#RideHigh ???? pic.twitter.com/X7lKTNClfQ

Mustangs on the Mound
Cal Poly’s pitching had easily its best week of the season through the last four games, holding a 1.50 ERA and allowing just six runs. That included a combined shutout led by Ethan Marmie and followed up by Reece Bueno and Troy Cooper. Since he started the Texas A&M upset, Marmie tops all Mustang pitchers with a 3-0 record, 30 1/3 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts.
Griffin Naess, Friday starter and reigning Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year, has also been lights-out through his last three starts, allowing a measly three earned runs through 18 1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .185 batting average.
During the recent 12-1 stretch, the Mustang bullpen had featured a combined three earned runs given up through 33 1/3 innings of work from Bueno, Josh Morano, Chris Downs, Tanner Sagouspe, and Jaccob Torres. That quintet has notched 37 strikeouts, a third of the pitching staff’s total, in this 13-game span.

Previewing the Opponent
The Beavers, without a conference since the dissolution of the Pac-12 before the 2025 season, are off to an unsurprisingly great start this year. They are on a ten-game win streak with recent, notable wins over GCU, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Washington State, and have a #6 rank bestowed by D1Baseball.com because of their form.
Since their first matchup against the Beavers in 1968, Cal Poly is 4-12-1 for the all-time series and 3-5 in the last ten seasons. The Mustangs and Beavers most recently faced off during the 2023 season in San Luis Obispo where Oregon State took three-of-four. Cal Poly still managed to swipe a win in the series and played the No. 18 Beavers quite close, with the run difference in the three losses at just eight.
A similarly powerful offense to Cal Poly, Oregon State has slugged 20 home runs and outscored opponents 147-67 this season. Four Beavers, led by sophomore infielder and No. 21 MLB.com Draft Prospect Trent Caraway (26 hits) have recorded over 20 hits. MLB.com’s no. 7 draft prospect Aiva Arquette leads eligible starters with 1.052 OPS.
Even more impressive is Oregon State’s pitching staff, which currently has the 4th-best ERA (2.82) in the nation, led by Dax Whitney’s 22nd-most K/9 (13.70) and Ethan Kleinschmit’s 13th-best H/9 (4.05). Whitney has stunningly been a part of three shutouts this season for a nation-leading four total as a team.
All games this weekend will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
