NEW ORLEANS, La. — Four Mustang women's golfers secured top-15 finishes in New Orleans as Cal Poly finished two strokes better than host Tulane to its first tournament victory since the 2023 Big West Championship.
This is the third consecutive year that Cal Poly has participated in the Tulane Classic after finishing 2nd last season and tying for 10th in 2022-23.
Cal Poly totaled 891 strokes as a team, split between 297 in round one, 306 in two, and 288 in three. Coming into the final day, the Mustangs were behind Tulane by six strokes but tied for its third-highest individual round score this season by shooting 288, securing first place out of ten teams.
At the par 72 and 6,095-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club, a notoriously difficult course with an average round score of 78.34, Sarah Yoo led the way with a third-place finish individually with 219 total score just four strokes behind the co-first place golfers after climbing seven places on the final day. She shot four birdies and an eagle in the front nine to finish under three on Tuesday.
Yoo's third-round score of 69 is her second this season in the 60s and the fifth of her career. The 219 final score is also tied for her second-best tournament mark this season, and her third-place finish is her highest since last season's second place in Fresno.
Nicole Koong (221) finished tied for 4th and Jensen Jalufka (224) was 10th, their second and twelfth times, respectively, finishing inside the top 10. Koong's 4th place tie was highlighted by pacing all golfers with five-under on par 3 holes, four strokes better than the next best.
Kamille Dimayuga (227), though finishing just outside the top 10, tied for 13th. Dimayuga, Yoo, and Jalufka all shot in the top-10 on par 4 holes. As a team, Cal Poly tied for first on par 3 strokes and paced all teams on par 4 holes by five strokes.
Yoo and Koong both enjoyed season-high placements, while redshirt senior Jalufka is now ranked #147 in Division I women's golf and has yet to shoot above 225 this season.
Sara Torres (245) placed 49th, her third-best of the season thus far.
The Mustangs get a near two-week break before heading across the Pacific Ocean to the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Maui, hosted by Big West foe Hawai'i from March 24-26.
