HOUSTON, Texas — Following day two, two program records were rewritten, Cal Poly's women trail the team rankings in 6th (94 points), and the men fell slightly behind UC Santa Barbara in 3rd (225 points).
Olivia Sundgren placed fourth in the 500 Free (4:54.49) and barely missed out on cracking the program top-5 list by two-tenths of a second, qualifying for the finals and defending fourth during the later session (4:55.40).
For the men's 500 Free, Lucas Meneghetti swam the program's fifth-fastest time in program history (4:25.58) during a 6th place A-Final run. Cole Groom also made the B-Final and came up in 15th (4:40.58).
Although the Mustangs missed out on the women's 200 IM finals, Mikaela Gomez (2:06.70) and Ella Bettencourt (2:06.82) were Cal Poly's highest placements in 20th and 21st, respectively. The triplet of Evan Yoo (1:44.70), Drew Huston (1:45.80), and Alex Seybold (1:46.25) gathered 3rd through 5th place in that order for the men's 200 IM, as Yoo reset his own program record and Seybold improved on his third-best program mark by .03 seconds.
On to the 50 Free, Melia Costa was the only Mustang to make it through the finals, placing 14th in the B-Final (23.58) after swimming a time in the prelims that ties for fifth in the program's top-5 list.
Jonathan Butler (20.16) and Lucas Crother-Collado (20.25) led the way for the men in the 50 Free, placing 12th and 15th in the B-Final while Butler was just .02 seconds away from resetting his third-best program mark.
Cal Poly's men's 200 Free Relay team of Jonathan Butler, Drew Huston, Lucas Crother-Collado, and Evan O'Connell ended up placing 4th (1:19.10) for the finals, which finally blitzed the program record after multiple attempts throughout the regular season.
Splitting up the swim sessions was diving in the early afternoon. Lucas Lehrer went atop for the men's team again in the 3-meter, securing 4th place in the finals (283.05) while Justin Dolezal had his high score of the day in the prelims (223.50) and finished 6th.
The women's 1-meter had five Cal Poly divers make the B-Final, highlighted by Shayna Gayer's 9th place performance (247.80). Following behind her in that final were Ava Lazovsky (231.10), Myl Lauc (210.00), Ava Geronimo (205.20), and KellyAnn Lim (195.90).
