SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Head Coach Nick Carless and Assistant Coach Jurgen De Jager are pleased to announce the addition of another high-profile international signee: South Africa’s Leo Matthysen.
Matthysen, from Cape Town, was ranked among the top 150 juniors in the world and will join the team in January for the start of the spring season, becoming Cal Poly’s third native African player on the 2025-26 roster. The 19-year-old joins fellow freshmen Jovan Lubbe, Denzel Seetso, and Derek Hafiz as incoming players with standout junior careers.
He has experience competing at the highest levels, achieving success on the professional circuit, earning ATP points at a young age, and representing South Africa in the Davis Cup, all rare accomplishments before coming to college. We are very fortunate to welcome a player with his level of international experience and competitiveness into our program.Assistant Coach Jurgen De Jager
