SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — In front of 2,749 fans at Mott Athletics Center on Saturday night, the Cal Poly Mustangs made history with a dominant straight-sets victory (25-14, 25-20, 25-12) over Hawai’i.
On Senior Night, the Mustangs (22-6, 13-3 Big West) achieved several milestones.
They secured their first series sweep over the Rainbow Wahine since 2017 and, for the first time in program history, did so in straight sets for both matches.
The win also matched last season's victory total, tying for the most under sixth-year head coach Caroline Walters.
Most notably, Cal Poly completed a rare undefeated season at home, finishing its 2025 slate at Mott Athletics Center with a perfect 15-0 record.
The team's 19 consecutive home wins, dating back to last season, gives them the nation's second longest active home winning streak, as well as the best 2025 home record in Division I Volleyball.
The Mustangs controlled the match from the first serve, walling off the net with six total blocks. Hawai’i struggled to find an answer, hitting .000 for the opening set. Coupled with a .313 hitting clip from Cal Poly, this defensive dominance led to a decisive 25-14 first-set win.
Hawai’i responded better in the second set, slowly chipping away at an early Cal Poly lead to tie it at 20-20. The Mustangs, however, closed on a 5-0 run to take a commanding two-set lead.
Any doubt was erased in the final frame, as Cal Poly sped to a 25-12 victory. The Mustangs came alive at the service line with four aces, while the defense added four more blocks, never allowing Hawai’i to build momentum.
Charlotte Kelly was a force on both sides of the ball, finishing as the match's high-scorer with 13.5 points. She delivered 10 kills with an impressive .412 hitting percentage and was central at the net, contributing to six total blocks.
Annabelle Thalken provided an offensive spark on the pins, co-leading the team with 10 kills and adding three block assists. Emme Bullis powered the offense with 29 assists, also contributing three kills, a service ace, and three blocks.
The victory keeps Cal Poly in position to secure a top-two seed in the conference with wins next weekend, which would earn a bye in the Big West Championship.
The Mustangs wrap up the regular season at Cal State Fullerton on Friday at 6 p.m. and at UC Irvine on Saturday at 1 p.m.
