SEATTLE, Wash. — Freshman Charish Thompson poured in a career-high 29 points and sophomore Vanessa McManus registered her first career double-double, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team dropped a back-and-forth affair at Seattle University on Saturday, 75-73.
In a game that saw the lead change hands nine times, the Redhawks (2-3) used a late run when the score was tied at 66-66 with 4:23 left to create another separation from the Mustangs (1-2) down the stretch.
Despite the defeat, Thompson had an incredible performance that kept the Mustangs in it throughout. She converted 10 of her 14 shot attempts and went a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line, finishing with 29 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
McManus was the only other Mustang in double figures on the night, tallying 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore Alana Goosby dished out a career-high seven assists for the Mustangs — who led 36-35 at halftime — and grabbed four steals.
Cal Poly finishes off a three-game road swing when they visit Eastern Washington on Monday at 5 p.m. live on ESPN+.
