THIS WEEK IN MUSTANG ATHLETICS
- Big West postseason implications will be on the line when second place Cal Poly women’s soccer hosts its final two regular season matches this Thursday and Sunday at Spanos Stadium.
- Coming off a bye week, football returns home this week to take on its fourth straight ranked opponent in No. 5 Montana State Saturday at 5 p.m. at Mustang Memorial Field
- Volleyball looks to keep this rolling this week when they travel to face UC Riverside Thursday before returning home Saturday to take on Big West leader UC Davis at 1 p.m.
- Men's Soccer looks to climb up the Big West standings with a pair of matches this week. First on the road at UC Riverside on Wednesday before hosting CSUN Sunday at Mustang Memorial Field at 3 p.m. in the home finale.
- Men's Basketball is back! The Mustangs, who made it to the Big West Championship Semifinals last year, will host an exhibition game against Cal State East Bay Friday at 11 a.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. Admission to the game is FREE.

Second Place Women’s Soccer Hosts Final Two Matches, Faces First Place CSUN Sunday
- After picking up two pivotal victories on the road and securing 6 conference points, Cal Poly returns home this week to host UC Riverside at 7 p.m. Thursday and CSUN at noon Sunday looking to lock up a spot in the Big West tournament. With a win Thursday against the Highlanders, the Mustangs would secure a spot in the conference tourney.
- With two matches remaining in the season, Cal Poly (7-2-8, 5-2-1 Big West) sits in second place in the Big West table with 16 points, 1 point behind first-place CSUN (7-6-3, 5-0-2 BW), who has a match in hand. The Mustangs are currently 3 points clear (a victory) of Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and Cal State Bakersfield, who are all tied for third place. The top six teams in the Big West regular season standings earn a spot in the conference tournament with the first and second place teams earning a bye directly to the semifinals.
- Cal Poly is fresh off a stellar Southern California road trip that saw them earn a 1-0 victory over Long Beach State and a 2-1 win over UC Irvine. It’s the first time since 2014 that the Mustangs have beaten both LBSU and UCI on the road in the same season.
- After netting the game winner in both victories this past week, graduate student midfielder Madelyn Dougherty was crowned the Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the first time on Monday.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Shannon Porubski was named the Big West Freshman of the Week for the second straight week and the fourth time this season on Monday after recording her sixth clean sheet of the year and allowing just one goal across Cal Poly’s two victories in Southern California.
- Cal Poly currently has the top three point scorers in the Big West this season as Dougherty, senior forward Jessie Halladay and junior forward Annika Smith are all tied for the conference lead with 17 points. Dougherty leads the Big West with seven assists this season, while Halladay and Smith are tied for the conference lead in goals with seven.
- Thursday’s match is Greek Night and the program’s final AYSO Appreciation Day of the season, while Sunday is the team’s regular season finale. You can purchase tickets to the UC Riverside match HERE and the CSUN match HERE. Both matches will also be televised live on ESPN+.
Volleyball Travels to UC Riverside Before Defending Home Versus UC Davis
- The Mustangs secured their eighth and ninth home sweeps this season with straight-sets victories over UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton. The team has now won 15 consecutive home matches, including an NCAA Division I-best 11-0 record this season.
- Emme Bullis delivered one of her best weekend performances of the season, recording 61 set assists (10.17 per set). She guided the offense to a .271 hitting percentage and 13.17 team kills per set, earning her second Big West Setter of the Week honor.
- Cal Poly remains in third place in the Big West (6-2) with a chance to take first this week. The Mustangs play at UC Riverside on Thursday at 6 p.m. before returning home to defend their home winning streak against conference leader UC Davis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Football Returns Home to Face No. 5 Montana State Saturday
- Fresh off a bye week, Cal Poly football returns home to host No. 5 Montana State Saturday at 5 p.m. inside Mustang Memorial Field presented by French Hospital at Spanos Stadium.
- Playing its fourth straight ranked opponent, the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
- The first 500 children age 13 and under will receive a reversible Cal Poly bucket hat upon entry. It is also Morro Bay and Cayucos Day which means folks who live in either of those places can register for $5 tickets ahead of time HERE
- On defense, Cal Poly boasts the top two tacklers in the Big Sky in linebackers Mikey D’Amato and Kenny Olson. Both are also top 10 in the country in that category. As a a team, the Mustangs are third in the Big Sky in sacks.
- Offensively, wide receiver Michael Briscoe leads the Big Sky and is tied for fourth in the FCS in receiving touchdowns.
Men's Soccer Looks to Climb Up Big West Standings
- With three regular season matches remaining, Cal Poly visits UC Riverside on Wednesday, Oct. 22 (7 p.m.) before closing its regular season home slate Sunday, Oct. 26 versus CSUN at 3 p.m.
- The Mustangs enter Wednesday’s matchup at UC Riverside in fifth place in the Big West standings on eight points. With the top six programs in the Big West standings qualifying for the conference championship, Cal Poly trails first place Cal State Fullerton by five points and third place Cal State Bakersfield by three.
- Prior to Sunday’s senior day matchup with CSUN, Cal Poly will honor its seven-player senior class: Nico Baltazar, Nalu Mack, Nicky McCune, Jackson Miller, Jake Oetinger, Bakuena Ramakatsa and Luke Schafer.
Men's Basketball Hosts First Exhibition Game Friday
- Fans of Cal Poly men's basketball can get their first look at the 2025-26 team this Friday when the Mustangs host Cal State East Bay for an exhibition game at 11 a.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
- While the game will not be broadcast, admission to the game is FREE for all fans to come check out the game in person.
- Under second year head coach Mike DeGeorge, the Mustangs return seven players from last year's Big West Championship Semifinal team. That group is led by guards Peter Bandelj, Cayden Ward, and Guzman Vasilic.
