Cal Poly Falls at TCU, Hosts UCSB Thursday
9/15/2024 4:29:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WORTH, Texas — In its final nonconference road match of the season, the Cal Poly women's soccer team suffered a 5-1 defeat to high-powered TCU on Sunday at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
Junior forward Jessie Halladay netted the lone goal for the Mustangs. In the 71st minute, senior forward Emily Nedom earned a penalty kick for Cal Poly when she was fouled by the TCU goalkeeper in the box. Halladay stepped to the spot for the Mustangs and buried a shot to the bottom right post. It was Halladay's first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.
The Horned Frogs (5-2-1), who advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven straight years from 2016-22, led 3-0 at halftime and finished with 33 shots in the match.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson made her fourth career start between the pipes for the Mustangs and recorded 10 saves, turning away a handful of dangerous scoring opportunities for the Horned Frogs throughout the match.
Freshman Lauren Collier made her first career start at outside back in the match, and senior center back Emma Brown earned her 52nd consecutive start.
Cal Poly (1-5-2) returns home this coming week to host Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Nevada at noon on Sunday, Sept. 22.
