GLASGOW, Scotland — Former Cal Poly women’s soccer star midfielder Camille Lafaix has signed a one-year contract to join the Rangers Women’s Football Club in the Scottish Women’s Premier League, the top division in Scotland.
For Lafaix, it’s her second professional contract after she spent the 2023-24 playing for FC Girondins de Bordeaux in France.

“I am extremely excited to be here and to start my journey with Rangers,” Lafaix said in an interview with RangersTV following the announcement of her signing. “When I think of Scottish football, I think about Rangers, so obviously every time I asked for some feedback from some of my old teammates or my parents they were all extremely delighted to hear that it was Rangers that was interested.”
The 23-year-old born in Los Gatos, Calif., played for the Mustangs from 2019-22 and was named Big West Midfielder of the Year in 2021 and 2022, becoming the first and only athlete in conference history to receive the award in two consecutive seasons.
Lafaix played in 12 matches for Bordeaux last season, which was a member of D1 Arkema — the highest division in France — at the time.
“I am delighted to be able to add Camille to the squad for the upcoming season,” Rangers head coach Jo Potter said. “She will help add further creativity to enhance the team and provide something different in the attacking third of the pitch. Playing at a high-level last season will only help her growth as a player and we hope to see her develop further in a Rangers jersey, I look forward to working with her.”
Last year, the Rangers won the Scottish Women’s Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
“I cannot wait to get my first minutes with the team,” Lafaix said.

Lafaix was a two-time All-Big West First Team selection for the Mustangs and helped the program capture its first outright Big West regular season title in nine years in 2022. As a team captain in her final season at Cal Poly, Lafaix led the team in points (11), goals (five) and game-winning goals (three), and secured a second straight United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team selection, allowing her to become the third player in program history to secure multiple All-West Region First Team selections. Lafaix, the 2022-23 Cal Poly Female Athlete of the Year, ranks 15th in program history in career points with 42, and prior to the 2022 season became the first Mustang ever to be named to the Preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, which is awarded annually to the National Player of the Year.
Lafaix is one of five players in the history of the Cal Poly women’s soccer program to sign a professional contract, along with Elise Krieghoff (2012-15), Alyssa Giannetti (2012-15), Becky Clark (2002-05) and Gina Oceguera-Eagleson (1995-99).
Rangers FC opened its 2024-25 season on Aug. 11 with a 11-0 victory at Aberdeen and host its first match of the year on Sunday at 6 a.m. PDT against Partick Thistle.
