SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A total of nine student-athletes on the Cal Poly track & field and cross country team received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday.
On the men's side, Davis Bove, Aidan Dimick, Corban Payne, Joey Souto and Lewis Westwood all garnered recognition. For the Cal Poly women, Shelby Daniele, Lexi Evans, Anna Grexton and Lariel Henley each earned a spot on the All-District Team.
The CSC Academic All-District men's and women's track & field/cross country teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performance and dedication in athletics and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA, be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, rank top 50 individually in at least one event in their respective region (cross country, indoor or outdoor track & field) and meet several other requirements. Each track & field and cross country program is only allowed to nominate up to five student-athletes per gender for recognition.
Bove and Evans have both been selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists and advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team CSC Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Tuesday, July 9, for the women and Wednesday, July 10, for the men.
For Daniele, this is her second straight year securing CSC Academic All-District honors. For Cal Poly's other eight honorees, this is their first time receiving the praise.
Bove (men's 1,500, 5,000 meters), Daniele (women's 200), Evans (women's pole vault) and Payne (men's shot put) all qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries this year during the outdoor track & field season. Five of the nine student-athletes named to the Academic All-District Team for the Mustangs captured All-Big West honors at the Big West Track and Field Championships, with Bove and Evans each securing an individual conference title.
