SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly Football is adding more depth to the quarterback room with the signing of 6'2, 200 pound Jackson Akins from University of Mount Union.
Head coach Paul Wulff is looking forward to having Akins on the roster
"Jackson has shown a lot of potential in his junior and senior years of high school," Wulff said. "He attended Mount Union in his first year of college and did some very nice things there. His desire to be challenged more and move closer to home was his driving catalyst to transfer. We feel like he has all the raw ability to develop into an outstanding player for us. We look forward to having him join our quarterback room and team."
In his one season at Mount Union, Akins played in four games passing for 245 yards and three touchdowns.
In high school, he spent his first three years at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Ariz. before transferring to Lake Gibson in Lakeland, Florida. At Lake Gibson as a senior, Akins threw for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns. At Desert Vista High School, Akins had 860 passing and 217 rushing yards and eight touchdowns as a junior. His sophomore season he passed for 675 yards and six touchdowns.
Akins will join a quarterback room in 2024 that will feature returners Bo Kelly, Jaden Jones, Colby White and Dieter Barr.
