Below is some info on the three Mustangs taking part in U20s and how they qualified, listed in the order in which they will compete at the meet.
Ben Lammers
Men's Javelin (Final)
Wednesday, 2 p.m.
Lammers is the first Mustang scheduled to take center stage at U20s. The Portland native will be returning to his home state to throw the javelin at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Lammers met the U20s qualifying standard in the men's javelin of 191 feet, 11 inches, with a lifetime best of 196-6 at the Mark Conover Classic in March. Lammers took seventh in the event at the Big West Championships to score 2 team points for the Cal Poly men.
Kalia Estes
Women's 400-meter Hurdles
Wednesday, 4:52 p.m. (First Round) • Thursday, 5:45 p.m. (Final)
Estes will run in the First Round of the women's 400 hurdles at U20s at 4:52 p.m. Wednesday. If she advances, Estes will then race in the final at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Estes did not meet the U20 qualifying standard time in the event of 1:00.50, but was close to enough to earn a spot in the competition.
The Mukilteo, Wash. native ran a lifetime best of 1:00.75 in the 400 hurdles during prelims at the Big West Championships on May 10, .08 seconds off No. 10 on Cal Poly's all-time list in the event. She went on to capture second place at the conference meet with a time of 1:00.79, scoring 8 team points to help the Mustang women secure their second Big West team title in program history.
Chris Caudillo
Men's 1,500-meter (Final)
Thursday, 4:10 p.m.
Caudillo is looking to cap off an historic freshman season with a strong performance at U20s. He will race in the men's 1,500 final at 4:10 p.m. Thursday and currently has the third best time among athletes accepted into the meet.
The Clovis, Calif. native flew past the U20 qualifying standard of 3:45.0 with a lifetime best time of 3:41.68 at the Oxy Invitational on May 4. The time is the sixth-fastest in school history and was good enough to earn Caudillo a spot in the NCAA West Prelims as a true freshman.
Caudillo scored 10 team points for the Cal Poly men at the Big West Track & Field Championships, placing third in the 1,500 and fifth in the 5,000. This year, he became the first athlete in the history of the Big West to be named the Big West Men's Freshman of the Year in both track and field and cross country.
