SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After helping the men's 4x400-meter relay make history at the Mt. SAC Relays, sophomore MacGregor TeSelle has been crowned the Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
TeSelle is the second Cal Poly athlete to earn Big West weekly praise this season, joining junior Travis Martin who was named Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week on April 9.
The honor comes after TeSelle ran the third leg on the men's 4x400 relay at the 64th Mt. SAC Relays on Friday which posted a time of 3:09.98 — the fastest time in Division I program history for the Mustangs and the best in at least 29 years. It's also believed to be the fifth-fastest time ever ran in school history regardless of division based on historical information that is currently available. TeSelle had a 46.9 split on his leg of the relay.
The historic time by the men's 4x400 allowed Cal Poly to capture first in the collegiate division at the meet.
Individually, TeSelle also secured third in the men's collegiate 200-meter at the meet with a time of 20.88 seconds, just .04 seconds off his PR which ranks No. 6 in school history. Currently, TeSelle's best 200 time this season (20.84 seconds) ranks fourth in the Big West and No. 39 in the West Region.
The Rocklin, Calif. is the first Mustang to win Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors since Aidan McCarthy earned the award during the final week of the regular season last year.
Cal Poly track and field hits the road this week for a pair of meets, splitting the squad between the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford on Friday and the Fresno State Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
