
Mustangs in Second After First Day of Big West Championship

LAS VEGAS – It was a strong first day of play for the Cal Poly women's golf team at the first round of the Big West Championship at Spanish Trail Golf and Country Club. The Mustangs are in second place as a team and three players are in the top 15.
As a team, Cal Poly heads into Tuesday's second round at 11 over par, three shots behind first place Long Beach State and five strokes ahead of third place UC Davis.
Individually, Kaylee Sakoda was the top performer for the Mutangs Sunday, shooting a one over par 73 to sit tied for third. She had 13 pars and two birdies on the day.
Both Jensen Jalufka and Sarah Yoo are tied for ninth at three over par after both shot 75. Nicole Neale is tied for 12th after shooting an opening round 76. Kamille Dimayuga is tied for 33rd at nine over par.
"Proud of how the team battled in windy conditions and looking forward to getting back out there to compete again tomorrow," Cal Poly head coach Courtney Roberts said after the round.
Cal Poly led the field in the opening round in par five scoring at three under par. They also had the third most pars and birdies.
The second of three rounds will be Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m.
