
Ackerman, Shah, Carter Earn All-Big West Accolades

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After having strong seasons as a team and individually, three Cal Poly women's basketball players – Natalia Ackerman, Annika Shah, and Mary Carter each took home All-Big West honors as announced by the conference Tuesday.
Ackerman was named First Team All-Big West, Shah earned Honorable Mention All-Big West honors and Carter was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team.
It has been a career season for Ackerman as she is the co-leader in scoring for the Mustangs (12.1 ppg), rebounding (8.7 per game), and blocks (2.1 per game). She leads the Big West and is top-30 in the nation in blocks, is second in the Big West in rebounding, 10th in scoring and leads the Big West in field goal percentage, shooting 59 percent.
Ackerman's scored in double figures 20 times this season and has 11 double-doubles. Last week, she broke Cal Poly's single season block record and currently ranks third all-time in program history for career blocks.
Shah has also been having a stellar season as she shares the co-lead in scoring for Cal Poly at 12.1 points per game. She's had 16 games where she's scored double digits, including a career-high 25 points in a game against CSUN.
One of the best overall shooters in the Big West, Shah leads the conference in three-point percentage at 40 percent and free throw percentage at 94 percent. She also had 10 assists in a game this season, marking the first time a Mustang player has had double digit assists in a game in 10 years.
Carter has been having an immediate impact on the Mustangs in her freshman season. She's averaging 6.5 points per game while playing in 27 of 29 games. The 6-3 Carter ranks second on the team in threes made with 32 and blocks with 14. She's scored in double figures seven times and double-digit rebounds three times.
All three have contributed greatly to Cal Poly having an outstanding season. The Mustangs finished fourth in the Big West standings during the regular season after winning 17 games and went 13-7 in Big West play. It's the most wins since the 2017-18 season and the highest finish in the Big West since the 2020-21 season.
Cal Poly will begin its quest for a Big West postseason title in Henderson, Nev. Thursday in the Quarterfinals of the Big West Championship when they face the winner of Wednesday's UC Davis-Cal State Fullerton game at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as locally on ESPN Radio 1280.
