FINAL RESULTS
SEATTLE, Wash. — Senior Annie Hatzenbeler entered the top-five in the women's indoor pole vault, Cal Poly posted the fifth-fastest time in school history in the women's 4x400-meter relay and the team earned six top-five finishes as the track and field program wrapped up the Husky Classic on Saturday.
23 Mustangs competed on the second and final day of the meet inside Dempsey Indoor.
In the women's pole vault, Hatzenbeler and sophomore Lexi Evans both cleared an indoor personal best of 13 feet, 0.25 inches, moving them into a tie with each other for No. 4 on Cal Poly's all-time list. Evans and Hatzenbeler finished sixth and seventh respectively in the event.
A freshman trio made up of Jordan Jackson, Kalia Estes and Elianah DeMange, and senior Anisa Rind helped Cal Poly place third in the women's 4x400 with a time of 3:52.48, fifth best indoors in program history.
A day after breaking her own school record in the women's indoor 200 for the second time this season, graduate student Shelby Daniele captured fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.55 seconds, just .02 seconds off her personal best which is No. 2 in school history.
In the women's long jump, juniors Melody Nwagwu (18-7.5) and Maya Holman (18-5.75) took third and fifth respectively.
On the men's side, junior Corban Payne grabbed third in the shot put (52-6.75) and freshman Chris Caudillo ran a PR of 4:02.59 in the mile. He is currently No. 5 in school history in the event. Junior Noah Bustos finished fifth in the long jump and in the process broke the indoor school record in the event that was established last year with a leap of 22-11.75. He also recorded a PR of 6.99 seconds in the 60.
Sophomore Tatiana Cornejo had arguably the most impressive performance of the weekend for the Mustangs on the first day of the meet Friday. Cornejo obliterated the school record in the women's indoor 5,000 by nearly 22 seconds, recording a massive all-around 40-second personal best of 16:01.47. The time was the fastest by a Mustang indoors or outdoors since 2017 when Peyton Bilo recorded the second fastest outdoor 5,000 time in school history (15:52.01).
Across two days at the Husky Classic, four school records were broken and 10 top-five marks were recorded.
This was the final full team meet of the indoor season for Cal Poly. A couple of Mustangs will head back to Dempsey Indoor on Feb. 23-24 to compete in the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite.
