Cal Poly Men's and Women's Swimmers Close 2024 Slate at UNLV Invitational
12/15/2024 4:15:00 PM | Swimming and Diving
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Rounding out the 2024 calendar year, the Cal Poly men's and women's swimmers head to one final invitational, hosted by UNLV, while the program's divers will wait until the first conference meet of 2025 against Cal State Bakersfield.
In comparison to the Texas invitational, there will be no long course swimming in Las Vegas, making the task of setting new program marks slightly more difficult but not improbable. So far this season, Cal Poly's men have set 16 new individual program marks, which includes four program records split between Drew Huston and Evan Yoo, as well as a pair of relay records.
Huston (200 Back) and Yoo (200 Breast) each had times good enough for automatic NCAA B-Cut qualifiers and top-30 marks for the entirety of Division I heading into the week.
The Seybold brothers combined for five of their own program marks, three to the elder Alex and two for Sam. Elsewhere, Finn Schlamp, Krishna Clarke, and Johnathan Butler all posted top-5 program marks in helping their Mustangs hold their own individually against some of the program's top teams.
Cal Poly's women have not swam competitively since the UC Santa Barbara duel way back on Oct. 4 in San Luis Obispo. During that meet, Olivia Sundgren earned a pair of event victories, pacing the pack in the 1000 free (10:32.53) and 500 free (5:07.76), Amalie Claus-Udarbe earned second in the 100 breast (1:06.32), Ella Bettancourt had a quartet of top-5 finishes in the 50 free (24.71), 200 and 400 medley, and 200 free (1:56.69), and finally Summer Cheng placed third in the 100 fly (58.07) and 200 free relay (1:38.79).
