NAU DAY TWO RESULTS
AUSTIN, Texas — Both the Cal Poly swimming and diving teams had fantastic, record-setting days at their respective invitationals, highlighted by Drew Huston and Evan Yoo picking up new top program marks alongside women's diving placing third in the team event.
Abigail Leight, Ava Lazovsky, and Shayna Gayer held their own in the Platform dives on Friday to record a 249.95 team score. Not only did that beat last year's season-high team score at the MPSF Championship by over 28 points, but Friday's finish was far and away Cal Poly women's diving's top all-time result.
Leight and Lazovksy easily enjoyed the finest dives of their true freshmen seasons as Leight scored a 195.60 in the preliminary round, good for the 2nd best Platform mark in program history. At the same time, Lazovsky had 186.40 in the final round to get into that top-5 list with the 5th spot.
On the men's side, Justin Dolezal beat his own personal best in the 3-Meter from last year, moving up to 4th in the program records with a 332.9 score in the final round, which also subsequently hit the zone qualifier requirements.
Gayer only scored 141.85 in the Platform prelims but greatly improved her score with 166.40 in the finals to help Cal Poly attain that record-setting team score. Lucas Lehrer placed third in the prelims for the men's 1-meter with a 273.20 score.
Huston blazed through the 200 Back prelims to earn an automatic B final qualification while placing third (1:41.26) and breaking his program record in the process. Despite not re-breaking his record in the finals, Huston finished runner-up to Olympic hopeful and All-American Will Modglin from no. 1 ranked Texas.
True freshman Sam Seybold, on the precipice of entering the program's top-5 lists over the last few days, posted the program's 3rd best time (1:45.21) in the 200 Back during the preliminary round while qualifying for the finals. Lucas Meneghetti also qualified for the 200 Back finals with a 1:47.69 time and even improved his prelim mark (1:47.11).
Setting another new top-5 mark, Jonathan Butler swam the 100 Free prelims in 44.38, which would have already been the 5th best time in program history if he did not swim even better in the finals, improving his mark to 44.31 and staying in 5th for that event's program top-5.
Coming off three different top-5 all-time performances and one record break over the last two days, Evan Yoo placed 5th in the 200 Breast prelims and automatically qualified for a B final while shattering the program's record by over two seconds (1:54.43). Yoo then reset his record by swimming 1:54.10 and placing 5th in the finals.
Alex Seybold was nearly as impressive in the 200 Breast, matching his now 2nd-best program mark that he set last season (1:56.89) while automatically qualifying for the B final. Krishna Clarke (2:00.51) and Luke Reyes (2:09.60) also scored qualifying results.
Finn Schlamp (1:47.77) and Anthony Moskalenko (1:49.95) both qualified for finals in the 200 Fly, and Schlamp came within less than one second from touching his third-best mark in program history that he achieved last season.
With swimming now wrapped up in Texas, only one final day of diving remains at NAU before another small break until mid-December with the UNLV Invitational.
