NAU DAY ONE RESULTS
AUSTIN, Texas — Highlighted by Drew Huston's third place performance in the 100 Backstroke finals, Cal Poly mirrored yesterday's success by breaking two records and setting seven new program marks overall.
Lucas Meneghetti got the Mustangs started again for the second day in a row with his 200 Free (1:38.55) performance, qualifying in the prelims. Meneghetti ended up improving on his time (1:38.41) in the C final.
Kicking off the finals with a stellar 200 Medley Relay, Drew Huston, Evan Yoo, Finn Schlamp, and Jonathan Butler (1:27.86) set a new program record after already doing the same thing in yesterday's 400 Medley Relay.
Alex Seybold continued the success of his teammates' momentum with a fantastic day in the 400 IM. The elder Seybold brother qualified for the finals (3:51.96) with what would have already been a fifth-best mark in program history before he improved on the time by nearly two seconds (3:50.34) to take the second-best time.
Vaulting himself and a few spots in the top-five of the, Yoo swam a fantastic 100 Breast time as expected from the transfer. Yoo (52.99) automatically qualified for a B final but his time was good enough to compete in the A final where he finished the day (53.14) just shy of resetting his own mark from earlier.
Alex Seybold also showed out in the 100 Breast, qualifying for the finals (53.94) tied for the third-best time in program history. Luke Reyes (55.55), Sam Seybold (55.65), and Anthony Moskalenk (57.49) also made it through prelims with respectable efforts.
Schlamp 's 100 Fly time in the prelims (48.21) was good enough to reset his own 4th best time in program history, but he swam even better in the finals to jump all the way to 2nd best (47.89) in that top five. Krishna Clarke, in return, took that 5th spot (48.27) with his finals swim after narrowly missing out on the list back in the prelims (48.44).
On the diving side, Laurel Abernathy's group finally got back to competition with the NAU Invite in Flagstaff. Ava Lazovsky notched a new personal best (252.35) in the 3-meter, finishing 7th among all divers there (498.35). Coach Abernathy applauded Lazovsky's consistency and drive.
Lucas Lehrer placed second in the prelims (256.95) while just under three points away from first and was flanked by Justin Dolezal (256.05) who took third place in the men's 1-meter. Dolezal put together a 283.8 point dive in the finals to jump Lehrer for second place overall (539.85 total) as Lehrer scored 246.1 and finished with 503.05 total points.
Tomorrow will be another doubleheader with diving on day two at NAU and swimming's final day at the Texas Swimming Hall of Fame Invite.
