DAY 1 PRELIM RESULTS
DAY 1 FINAL RESULTS
AUSTIN, Texas — Cal Poly's men's swimming enjoyed a blazing start to the prestigious Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invite as five total new marks were set in the program record book, which included Evan Yoo breaking the 200 IM record and the Mustang 400 Medley Relay team shattering the previous program best by over three seconds.
The Mustangs started day one of the invitational on an oustanding pace with Lucas Meneghetti swimming his new personal best in the 500 Free (4:29.96).
The most impressive stretch of the day, invidually, came during the 200 IM, featuring three Mustangs completely overwriting the top three for that event in the program records. Evan Yoo (1:45.66) and Drew Huston (1:45.67) were neck-and-neck in the race, respectively placing 15th and 16th, guaranteeing themselves B qualifying times. They were followed by Alex Seybold (1:46.73) whose mark qualified him for finals as well.
Swimming in that same 200 IM, a pair of true freshmen Krishna Clarke (1:48.39) and Sam Seybold (1:48.41) not only posted final qualifying times but also would have set top-5 program marks if not for their trio of aforementioned teammates resetting the entire top-3. Luke Reyes book-ended the event with a respectable time (1:51.57).
Jonathan Butler led the way for Cal Poly in the 50 Free with a time of 20.17 that was already fourth in program history, but he competed in a swim-off to claim a B finals qualifying spot and improved on that time (20.14) to tie for third-best in the program record book. Huston narrowly missed out on his own place in the 50 Free top-5 list with a fantastic time (20.24) but managed a 20.16 while leading off the 200 Free Relay, which did secure his spot in the list. Finn Schlamp and Lucas Crother-Collado both tied and qualified for finals in the 50 Free (20.57), and Anthony Moskalenko (21.17) and Sam Seybold (21.27) rounded out the prelims.
Huston, Crother-Collado, Schlamp, and Butler (1:20.77) got within less than a half-second of setting a new 200 Medley Relay mark while placing 8th in the event to kick off the finals. Back to the 200 IM, Evan Yoo broke his own program record that he set earlier in the day (1:45.35) alongside Alex Seybold also upping his own third-best time in the event (1:46.28). To close out the first day of the invitational, Huston, Yoo, Schlamp, and Butler (3:10.53) combined for a record-shattering 400 Medley Relay time.
Competition continues tomorrow with prelims at 8:00 a.m. again as well as finals at 4:00 p.m., while diving also begins at the NAU Invite.
