SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After an upset performance over UC Santa Barbara in their very first Big West dual-meet since the conference switch, the Mustangs will send their divers into the central valley for a pair of invitationals hosted by conference foe Cal State Bakersfield.
While Cal Poly’s swimmers will get a small break, the diving team finally gets a chance to prove itself in regular season competition against other programs after not having head-to-head battles with UCSB due to the lack of a Gaucho diving program.
Led by sophomore Justin Dolezal and true freshman Lucas Lehrer, the Mustangs will be looking to build on the momentum gained from Dolezal’s 302.70 zone-qualifying dives as well as Cal Poly’s overall performance this season.
On the women’s side, in place of 2024’s Queen of the Dive Shayna Gayer, a pair of freshmen took first place finishes during the UCSB dual-meet. Ava Lazovsky took first in the 1-meter, earning a 230.78 total score, while Ava Geronimo totaled 232.05 in the 3-meter.
Both Ava’s, along with the other women’s divers, will have a chance to cement even better scores against legitimate mid-major competition this weekend.
