2024 SCHEDULE
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly beach volleyball has released its 2024 schedule that features two home events, including the marquee Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge. Ninth year head coach Todd Rogers has put together another challenging schedule for his Mustangs in 2024. The team is set to face nine teams who qualified for the NCAA Championships last season. Cal Poly will open the season Feb. 23 against Tarleton State at an event hosted by McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. In that event, they will also face Nicholls State, NCAA Championships qualifier Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and McNeese State. They will then head down to Los Angeles to face some of the top teams on the west coast at the Battle for the West. There, they will take on powerhouses and NCAA qualifiers in UCLA, Cal, defending national champion USC, and Washington. They will make another trip down to southern California March 9-10 where they will take on Santa Clara, Southern Miss, and two teams who made the NCAA Championships last year in Florida International and Stetson in Long Beach. The first home event will take place March 16-17 at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. The Mustangs will welcome Pacific, North Florida, Santa Clara, and UC Davis for the two-day event. Cal Poly will play Pacific March 16 at 4:30 p.m. and North Florida at 7 p.m. They will then face Santa Clara and UC Davis March 17 at 11:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. This year's regular season gathering of all the Big West teams to play each other will take place in Davis/Sacramento. There, Cal Poly will face Cal State Bakersfield, UC Davis, CSUN, Long Beach, State, Hawai'i, and Sacramento State March 23-24. The other home event, the annual Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge, will take place April 12-13 and will see seven other top collegiate programs come to Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. It will feature USC, UCLA, Florida State, TCU, LMU, Pepperdine, and Long Beach State. Just like last year, the format will be pool play with two groups of four with the winners of each pool meeting in a championship match to crown a winner. In pool play, Cal Poly is scheduled to face Florida State, LMU, and UCLA. After COE, the Mustangs will head to New Orleans to finish out the regular season April 19-20 where they will face Southern Miss again, Tulane, Louisiana Monroe, and UAB. The Big West Championships will take place April 25-26 in Long Beach on the campus of Long Beach City College. Last year, Cal Poly advanced all the way to the championship match for the fourth consecutive season before falling to Long Beach State. The NCAA Championships will be held May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala. for the final year before it moves to Huntington Beach, Calif. beginning in 2025. The Mustangs have made it there three of the last four seasons. The Mustangs will be led this year by the return of three players from last year's team who earned All-Big West honors in junior Piper Ferch, sophomore Izzy Martinez, and senior Piper Naess. They will also get back 2022 All-American Ella Connor, who missed all of last season. There are plenty of newcomers to this year's team as 14 of the team's 25 are first-year Mustangs. That consists of 10 freshmen and four transfers. The 2024 season marks the 10-year anniversary of the start of the beach volleyball program at Cal Poly. During that time, the program has a record of 147-132, has won three Big West championships, and has seen three players be named AVCA All-Americans.
